Green Action Week (October 04-10, 2021) is a global campaign to promote sustainable consumption. It is an initiative by the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC) and carried out in coordination with Consumers International (CI). Each year in October, organisations around the world take joint action to promote a common cause. This year 50 civil society organisations (CSOs) in 30 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the US participated in the campaign.
The theme for 2021 was the ‘Sharing Community’. The significance of this is to ignite cultures of sharing and collaboration to make sure that everyone has sustainable access to goods and services.
The campaign targeted at urban consumers to expand the outreach in four localities (Ayodhya Nagar Extension, Neelkanth Vihar, Mahesh Nagar & Hardev Vihar) in the city of Jaipur. The major activities of this year include Kitchen Gardening, Trainings for Best out of Waste, Community Level Stakeholders’ Consultations and a District Level Stakeholders’ Consultation Meeting.
CUTS International also partnered and supported organizations in 10 Districts of Rajasthan states, for conducting GAW campaign. The partner Districts were: Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Dausa, Kota, Jhalawar, Jodhpur, Pratapgarh, Sawai Madhopur, and Udaipur in addition to Jaipur. This helped in creating a network of organisations working on sustainable consumption and strengthen the collective advocacy for rebuilding recovery plans that will reverse current trends and change the consumption patterns towards more sustainable future.
