Celebration of World Consumer Rights Day 2013

Brief of Activities Planned by CUTS International to Observe the Day

CUTS International, a Jaipur based consumer advocacy group and active member of Consumer International, is planning various activities to commemorate this year’s World Consumer Rights Day through various activities.

CI guideline to member action

1. Street Plays on the theme

On 15th March, 2013, CUTS will organise street plays on four public places located in four corners of Jaipur city. The purpose of conducting these street plays is to make people (general masses) aware of consumer rights and responsibilities and also to make them known about the WCRD theme of this year through traditional and conventional styles like story based plays on the street with traditional trumpets, singing, dancing using musical instruments. The four street places are planned to be conducted at Tonk Phatak at 9 am; at Amrapali Circle, Vaishali Nagar at 4 pm; at Space Cinema, Jhotwara Road and at Ramganj Chopar at 6.15 pm.

2. Awareness Event at School

On the same day i.e. 15th March, 2013, CUTS has an educative event at the ‘Rani Senior Secondary School’ located at Pratap Nagar, Sanganer, Jaipur starting at 11 am, where the team will interact with school children and educate them on various consumer issues, rights, responsibilities and about the theme. On the occasion, school children will also be distributed various pamphlets and literature on consumer protection.

3. Public event on March 18, 2013 in partnership with Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India

On 18th March, 2013, CUTS will organise a public event, which will be in a bigger way that is conducting half day’s event and panel discussion at Hotel Country Inn & Suits, Khasa Kothi, Jaipur. The participants in the event will be covering almost all the 33 districts of Rajasthan, some local Jaipur based NGOs, CSOs, media, academics, judiciary and government. Principle Secretary, Consumer Affairs of the Government of Rajasthan, will be the Chief Guest. Several other dignitaries are also expected to participate on the occasion. CUTS has also planned to honour few consumer activists and networkers for their outstanding contribution in consumer protection in the state during the occasion.
