Inter-Ministerial Monitoring Committee (IMMC) on Misleading Advertisements

Taking cognizance of the problem of misleading advertisement and unfair trade practices arising there from and in order to safeguard the interests of the consumers, the Government of India constituted an Inter-Ministerial Monitoring Committee (IMMC) on the issue of Misleading Advertisements in March 2014. George Cheriyan, Director, CUTS International is appointed as a member of the IMMC as a representative from the Central Consumer Protection Council (CCPC). During two years, the committee will meet periodically and look into the complaints received, monitor misleading advertisement and unfair trade practices, identification and recommendation of appropriate legislative measures to safeguard the interest of consumers. The Additional Secretary, Dept. of Consumer Affairs will chair the Committee. The committee consists of members including director general of Bureau of Indian Standards, Secretary of Press Council of India, Government officials and industry, NGOs and trade bodies.
