Green Action Week (GAW) is a global campaign dedicated to fostering sustainable consumption practices. Initiated by the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC) in collaboration with Consumers International (CI), this campaign focuses on promoting community-driven solutions to environmental challenges. Since 2019, the global theme for GAW has been “Sharing Community,” emphasizing collaboration and resource-sharing to build a more sustainable future.
For the CUTS GAW 2024 campaign, the theme is “Best out of Waste,” with a particular focus on addressing the challenges posed by single-use plastics and other household waste. Over recent years, consumption patterns have shifted dramatically, leading to unsustainable lifestyles and a significant increase in plastic waste.
The widespread use of plastic items has become a pressing environmental issue in India.Although governments have implemented various measures to address these challenges, including banning the manufacturing, import, stocking, distribution, sale, and use of single-use plastic items with low utility and high littering potential (effective July 1, 2022), substantial progress remains
