Specialised lawyer in consumer and education law, Rhoda H. Karpatkin is presently President of Emeritus of Consumers Union (CU), US. She was the president of CU for 27 years from 1974 to 2001 and served two terms as President of Consumers International (CI) and is board member in several International Trade, Human Rights and Policy making organisations.
Rhoda Karpatkin Consumer International Award was established in 2005 to honour the pioneering work of Rhoda Karpatkin to enhance the welfare of consumers throughout the world. The award recognises those who have made significant contributions to the welfare of consumers on the international stage. From 1973 American Council on Consumer Interests (ACCI) have honoured worldwide scholars working on consumer protection issues. Annually, 11 categories of awards are granted to the people.
ACCI, a leading membership organisation since 1953, promote consumer policy research and education consisting of a world-wide community of researchers, educators and related professionals dedicated to enhancing consumer well-being. ACCI promotes consumer interest by encouraging, producing and communicating policy-relevant research. ACCI has recognised CUTS’ contributions and have extended the invitation to share its experiences at the international level.
Consumer Unity & Trust Society (CUTS) is having long history of pioneering research programme for the welfare and protection of consumers across the world. It has been recognised by several national as well as international organisations/institutions. Recently, on March 15, 2013, CUTS signed an agreement with ‘Research Centre for the Law and Policy of Global Consumer Protection’, Wuhan University China to cooperate and support to teach, research and disseminate consumer protection law in China.
