ANSA- SAR Launched to Promote Governance and Accountability

Affiliated Network for Social Accountability – South Asia Region and Global Partnership Fund (ANSA – SAR & Global) organized a five days Workshop on ‘Social Accountability Tools and Approaches’ from March 7-11, 2010 for the participants of 18 organizations forming the network from South Asia and other regions. The launch of ANSA-SAR & Global and MoU signing ceremony were the main attraction on the occasion.

The inaugural event witnessed the presence of the chairperson Barrister Manzoor Hasan, Director, Institute of Governance Studies, Dr. Gopakumar Thampi, CEO of ANSA and Acting Vice Chancellor of BRAC University, Professor Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir. A press meet was organized at Journalism Training and Research Initiative (JATRI), BRAC University, Dhaka after inaugural ceremony. One representative from each of the partnering countries made felicitation speech.

The event also witnessed various sessions on the tools of social accountability and simultaneous discussions & sharing of the information from all over the world. The resource persons from all over the world contributed through taking sessions and sharing experiences. It proved as an opportunity to establish CUTS as a leading organization in the area of governance and accountability in the region by showcasing its work and to be recognized as resource agency.

George Cheriyan (Director, CUTS International) was one of the resource persons to a present and facilitate a session on Participatory Expenditure Tracking Survey (PETS) based on CUTS pilot work in Rajasthan. Om Prakash Arya, Project Coordinator, CUTS was an active participant in the workshop.
