Pradeep S Mehta re-nominated to the National Road Safety Council of India

Pradeep S Mehta, Secretary General of CUTS (Consumer Unity & Trust Society) has been re-nominated as member in the newly constituted National Road Safety Council of India set up by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Govt of India.

This new council has been set up in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 215 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, of the gazette notification dated 13th February, 2013.

The new council shall advise on all the matters pertaining to planning and coordination of policies and standards of safety in the road transport sector. Besides, this body will also formulate and recommend road safety programmes implemented by road safety organizations and other agencies associated in road safety issues. Other areas, where this council would envisage to intervene is research development to improve safety aspects in the road transport sector including maintenance of statistics of road accidents and their analysis and to oversee and monitor at the central level, the overall road safety measures taken by the union territories and the state governments.

Mehta have served on several policy making bodies of Government of India.
