G20: Indian Prime Minister Singh receives open letter ahead of summit

Consumers International, October 19, 2010
CUTS International recently enjoyed widespread media coverage after urging the Indian Government to raise the issue of financial consumer protection at the next G20 summit in Seoul, Korea.

CUTS wrote letters to both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee as part of CI’s Consumers for Fair Financial Services campaign. The campaign is calling on the leaders of G20 countries (who are next meeting in Seoul, Korea on 10 and 11 November) to set up an international Experts Working Group to look at protecting consumers of financial services.

The story was covered in leading daily newspapers Hindustan Times and Times of India, as well as a number of other media outlets.

In supporting this international campaign CUTS is joining forces with other CI members, both in India and the rest of the world, who are stepping up efforts to ensure that governments take meaningful action on financial consumer protection.
